Life Changes – When Your Life Turns Upside Down

Marital separation, marital affairs, traumatic accidents, job loss, death of a child……….

You walk around feeling numb and out of control. Life feels as if it’s never going to be OK again. You feel betrayed, confused asking questions, “what if?”, “why me?” never finding solace.

I went through this, please see “My Story” when everything important to me was taken away.

This Too Shall Pass

A King of a large kingdom was always troubled by the constant wars and conflicts between neighbouring countries and between his own people, interspersed with times of peace, celebration and victory too. So he went to a wise man and asked him to make him a ring and subscribe on it something that will enable the desperate King to cope with the constant tide of changes.  So the wiseman created him a ring with the inscription “This Too Shall Pass”, which brought the King great peace of mind thereafter.

Difficult times are highly charged with emotions; grief, sadness, disappointment, regret, anger………and the greater the emotional charge is the more it dominates our thoughts, feelings, behaviour and therefore lives and relationships.

5 Stages of Grief

The truth is if there is nothing you can change about the situation, they you need to move through the 5 stages of grief. The only danger is when people isolate themselves from the rest of the world, so their suffering becomes greater as their thoughts rule their closed in world. However if you can acknowledge that there is a cycle which has an end then you have HOPE.

What To Do

  • Get a support network – friends and family
  • Join a support network – various support organisations with like minded people
  • Look after yourself – eat well & get some basic exercise in the sun (as the sun generate “good feeling’ hormones in the body)
  • Have an outside interest – work, hobby, sport – something which takes your mind off of the problem even for a 10 minutes
  • Seek a therapist like a Life Coach who does Cognitive Behavioural Therapy who can help you move through the 5 stages faster with more meaning so bitterness and resentment don’t set in as these feelings can destroy lives over time.

Believe it or not, but 90% of my blogs are based on what I or my clients have experienced and that I feel should be shared for everyone’s benefit – thank you for the affirmation.

    • Thank you for your post………..Absolutely! I speak from my heart and personal experience as to what works – as there is so much on the web which is generalised, that I like to be more specific when addressing particular topics which is why a lot of my blogs are so long, but I have plenty more upcoming blogs which will provide more detail as I get around to doing them – thank you so much for sharing!

Hmm it appears like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for newbie blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.
