Those achieving leadership positions in an organization are often recruited from the ranks. New leaders often struggle because they are still working with individuals that used to be their peers. They need help in adapting to their new roles and to accept the fact that they have new responsibilities. That is why many successful companies have coaching programs.

New leaders are often unsure of the responsibilities of their new roles – it’s just assumed that because an individual is placed in that role, that they automatically know what to do.

Leaders in the senior echelons of organizations often find it difficult to keep up with the latest developments, new technology, dealing with Baby Boomers alongside of Gen Y workers, and new ways of doing business. Coaching by professionals can help them stay updated, relevant and innovative. If this is not done and the senior leadership becomes stagnant, the entire organization will become stagnant.

Leaders need to know how to inspire and motivate their team to get the best results that are aligned with the business strategy.

Permanent Life Changes offers Leadership Coaching that equips leaders with:

Coaching Skills – so that the Leader is able to listen and communicate effectively to their staff in order to inspire and motivate them to deliver the best possible results. Through using their coaching skills, the leader can confidently delegate tasks to trusted staff members who feel empowered to innovatively solve and rectify “on the floor” process and system problems, thus freeing up the Leader’s time to focus on higher priorities.

A Leaders Mindset – so the Leader has the confidence and resilience to make tough decisions quickly and see them through to the end, and take risks knowing they will pay off.

Limiting Beliefs – “Imposter Syndrome”,  “I’m not good enough” etc – all of these are  subconscious limiting beliefs that can sabotage the leader’s ability to be at their best, 100% of the time.  A coach can eliminate these limiting beliefs by firstly bringing awareness to them, and then assist the Leader to reprogram these beliefs into healthy, supportive beliefs that will enable the leader to excel in their role supported by a strong belief in self.

Organisational skills – Leaders that come up through the ranks can have lingering habits that keep them doing basic tasks from their former roles, which now, as the Leader, they should delegate. Through coaching, the Leader will come to identify:

  • those tasks that can be delegated, outsourced or held over for a few more days or weeks.
  • those staff members who can be trusted to deliver to the expected level of competence.
  • staff gaps where extra staff training is needed or recruit more capable team members

Thus freeing up time for the Leader to plan and execute business strategies to get the best results for the business.

Sounding Board – the coach operates as a confidante for private or confidential discussions around decision-making, or dealing with personal matters that are distracting the leader from their duties.

Leading by Example – the leader needs to be the “captain of the ship” to whom all team members look to for direction, problem solving and support.  However, leaders are human too and will have their “up” days as well as their “down” days, so they need to be present and manage their inner dialogue so as not to negatively influence and lose the confidence of the team members. A coach can train the leader how to control and manage the leader’s inner dialogue through building their self-awareness and emotional intelligence – therefore reducing stress on the leader as well as the rest of the team.

Career Progression Planning, and Recruiting – the leader needs to know who to recruit to create the ideal team, know what motivates each individual employee, and place the right person in the right role – so that they remain fulfilled and are competently delivering  results. The Leader also needs to know where their career will progress to; what are their strengths and weaknesses, and their motivations etc.  Using Personality Profiling you can determine what role suits the individual’s profile, OR you can even recruit new individuals or even groups that have the characteristics for a specific role, for example. a real estate agent and then get them to do a personality profile which will show you who is most suited to that role.
